Trilobites are a member of extinct fossil arthropods. They are known for their three lobed and three segmented form. They appeared in the Cambrian Period which was about 542 million years ago. They were exclusively marine creatures. Trilobites had different roles in the food chain as some where active predators and others were scavengers. Trilobites became extinct at the end of the Permian, which was 251 million years ago. This was caused by the Permian mass extinction that wiped out 90% of the species on Earth.
