We have had a great day today! Through the Vancouver Aquarium Education department, we led a field-based class of home-schooled children to teach them about some basic geological principals.
We took the class to our ‘Kitsilano Beach Project’ site, and did some interactive learning exercises, one illustrating geological time and evolution, another on the formation of sedimentary rocks and then we finally did a fossil hunt, looking for some of the 45-50 million year old plant remains that we are studying on the beach.
The group ranged in age from about 6 to 16, and so was quite a challenge to appeal to all levels. But the kids were all smiles and loved the day! The parents were complimentary and the learning objectives were achieved.
We look forward to the next classes in 2016!
